Ukraine: May faith replace fear

After this week's meeting for worship, our Moscow Friends group had another long and very lively discussion on Ukraine. We especially enjoyed having our member Sasha Gorbenko, now living in Ukraine, back among us to give his impressions.

Among other subjects, we talked about the information war going on all around us, in the mass media and on the Internet. In this polarized atmosphere, a local, even accidental incident of fatal violence could escalate. We appreciated the cool heads who have generally prevailed at sites of armed confrontation and decided that the people in these places ought to be prayed for.

We participants in this conversation decided to make a public call for this kind of prayer. This isn't a monthly meeting statement--by the time we got to this point, there were only six of us in the room--but the leading to publish the call informally was affirmed by all present. Here's what we said:
On Saturday, March 8, Moscow Friends continued their weekly discussions on the situation in Ukraine.

Discussion participants agreed to send out the following specific call for prayer:

Please pray for all those involved in potentially hostile confrontations, that wisdom and humanity might always prevail and that bloodshed be avoided. May faith replace fear in all situations.

With love from Moscow Friends.

For those who would like the Russian texts of both statements (last week's statement made at the request of the business meeting, and the informal statement above), here they are:
